There are so many unforgettable images from the early days of music videos. The hair in A Flock of Seagulls, the pretty boys in Duran Duran frolicking in the jungle, Cyndi Lauper crawling around in a pink dessert with mirrors…
We recently rediscovered this genius video by Sparks that has almost every ’80s cliché possible -— the kick dancing, men with a face full of make-up and giant shoulder pads, a slow motion effect, and, apropos of nothing, cream pies being thrown at the keyboardist (is this where Matt & Kim really got the idea for their “Yea Yeah” video?).
