Our two cents on the new videos in last night’s Subterranean:
Bright Eyes “Four Winds” — lots of religious imagery happening in that song, eh? Possibly the best looking Bright Eyes video yet, thanks to indie video director of choice Patrick Daughters. The video is just to tease you — his album won’t be out until April.
Modest Mouse “Dashboard” — see our lip synch theory.
Klaxons “Golden Skans” — what a difference a budget makes! If you saw the “Atlantis To Interzone” video we played a few weeks ago then you know this is practically an epic. The Klaxons album will be in stores in the U.S. on 3/13, but you can download it from any digital store right now. The guys will do a short U.S. tour in April.
Albert Hammond Jr. “101″ — Our second Patrick Daughters video in this show. If you couldn’t quite place him, Albert is better known to the Subterranean audience as rhythm guitarist in The Strokes. This album has been out in the UK on Rough Trade for quite a while and will see it’s US release on 3/6. Albert’s album is a cornucopia of the tri-state area’s finest — he enlisted help from Ben Kweller, Jody Porter (Fountains of Wayne), Sammy James Jr. (the Mooney Suzuki), Sean Lennon, Julian Casablancas & Ryan Gentles (aka the 6th Stroke).
The Fratellis “Flathead” — Yes, you do know that song. It’s the one in the current iPod commercial. Our favorite thing about the Fratellis is that they seem to be compulsive liars — their favorite sport is making up stories to tell journalists when they get bored in interviews. Google them and see for yourself.
Catfish Haven “Tell Me” — This seemed like the perfect video to wrap up this show. The band is named after the trailer park that singer George Hunter grew up in back in Missouri and, as you could tell by the video, they’re keeping those bluesy, trailer roots alive today in Chicago.
Next week: Juiceboxx.
