We were inspired to bring you this video while doing some Jesus & Mary Chain research for a video playlist (you’ll find out more soon enough). Black Box Recorder was the project put together by John Moore, after he left JAMC, and Luke Haines of the Auteurs, so you knew right off the bat it was going to be a bit dark and twisted. They brought in Sarah Nixey to do those ethereal female vocals (we’re guessing since Hope Sandoval was busy singing duets with the JAMC at the time).
The result was obvious: a track with the Auteurs vaguely depressed and twisted themes, slightly more dynamic music and deceptively sweet female vocals. So, just remove the disco from Saint Etienne and focus the song topics on the morbid.
Take a gander for yourself, but be warned that it may put a damper on your afternoon.
