We’re going to start you off today with something different. Our sister channel for several million very lucky college students, mtvU, has a series called Stand-In where celebrities, musicians, politicians and other notable and knowledgable people stand-in for professors for a day to teach a class.
One of their most recent Stand-Ins features Malcolm Gladwell and Kenna at UPenn in a sociology class talking about the chapter in Gladwell’s Blink that deals with the appeal of music on first blush and the specific case of Kenna.
As an insider who has been around to see the development of Kenna as an artist and how the industry have dealt with him, Subterranean won’t say we find Gladwell’s chapter to be entirely accurate but we find the outsider view to be very intriguing. We’re also fascinated with his ideas on famaliarity vs. first impresions in music.
Enough about us - watch the piece dirctly below and Kenna’s two previous music videos after the jump. Kenna’s new album has been making it’s way around our CD player, but we aren’t aware of a release date for it yet.
