It seems like every time we come across a review for the new Rilo Kiley album all we get is a Fleetwood Mac reference. We’ve listened to the album ourselves what must be a couple hundred (ok, dozen) times now and we’re gonna have to go ahead and call B.S. on that analogy. It’s a handy reference for the lazy music critic, but not at all a guide to what they sound like this album around.
In fact, we’d say the current Rilo “situation” is more like Rainer Maria. Think over the post break-up Rainer albums and see if you don’t agree. In this new video for “Silver Lining” it’s especially apparent that Blake is using his guitar to speak for him on this album (we read somewhere that he only wrote one song, as opposed to his usual half or more) as the rebuttal to Jenny’s lyrics.
