We sent our favorite anonymous Subterranean stalker to mtvU’s Woodie Awards to blog it for us. We’re pretty sure he was still drunk when he typed this.

Thursday night’s Woodies was a triumphant foray into the eclectic future of music, not unlike the legendary show this blog is named after (yes, I’m sucking up to the bosses and maybe i’ll get a free MTV Networks cafeteria lunch off this gig!). For you SubT(asteful) followers, the recap goes as follows:

The lights went up with surprise guest Lupe Fiasco singing the sure-to-be-hit-single “Superstar” featuring a dude who this writer thought was Robin Thicke on the chorus (I loved Growing Pains!) but then turned out to be Adam Levine (from a little band called Maroon “I allegedly slept with Nick Lachey’s wife” 5) and then actually turned out to be none other than MATTHEW SANTOS!

Yeah, I have no idea who he is either.

Some other dude got onstage at the end and my friend said it was the guy from Fall Out Boy but I liked Robin Thicke more. Opening Performance: B+!

More after the jump…

They gave some awards away to bands we purposefully ignore (Holla’ at me Say Anything!) and then Keenan (What up Kel?) introduced Tokyo Police Club by quoting NWA: “F**k the police!” Keenan, you have a potty-mouth!

TPC performed next and were pretty awesome. I think the sound engineer woke up for the second track and realized there was a guitar on stage he should turn up, but the Canadians were on top of their game. Tokyo Police Club: E for Effort!

Some more awards followed (who can bother with those droll speeches when there’s an open bar???) and then we got to the heart of the show: SPANK ROCK! Okay, where to begin? Day-Glo bikini clad strippers? Check. Devlin and Darok and XXXChange on the mighty 1’s and 2’s? Check. Santogold and Pase Rock on backup vocals? Check. Naeem in a Fedora grindin’ up against the ladies? Check! 100 kids on stage shakin their booty to “Hoochie Mama”? Check please!

What a stellar performance, and Senor Darko pulled out a classic Who moment by breaking his instrument, namely a Technics 1200! What showmanship! And for the irony, I give an A+ for the Baltimore Booty Bass team!

And yes, then more awards (who can keep up with those things?). I heard Naeem threw a drink on some other band and got kicked out [Ed.: It was water, the band was The Academy Is..., and no one was thrown out.]. I missed The Academy Is…! But, fear not, I interviewed a random dude at the end of the show who summed up the band all the young ladies were in attendance to see!

And, yes, more awards came next. You’d think they’d run out of these things already.

Finally, someone dug up Annie Lennox (”Here Comes the Rain Again” anyone?) to introduce Rilo Kiley [Ed.: We know you were really drunk here cos Annie gave out the Good Woodie award while RJD2 and mtvU/News VJ Kim Stolz introed Rilo.], whose Jenny Lewis looked pretty darn hot in the white fishnet tights! She sang a cover which should’ve been Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” in that outfit [Ed.: Actually it was an accoustic version of "The Moneymaker".] and then a track off the new album (maybe “Silver Lining”? The whiskey was still playing “Hips Don’t Lie” in my head…) [Ed.: And that was "Breakin' Up".] Let’s throw out a B+ for the kidz as this intrepid reporter headed for the bar for last call!

Congrats to the mtvU folks for a great show, and thanks SubT(onic and vodka) team for the tix!
