Want to know what Rilo Kiley were up to backstage at mtvU’s Woodie Awards? Those clever cads put the band to work and filmed a Dean’s List of their favorite videos from their dressing room.
Now the fun part - let’s critique their picks.
The list starts off really strong with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Down Boy” - our pick for hottest song of 2007. Then they go with Babyshambles “F*** Forever” (this one grew on us, we have to admit) and Klaxons “Golden Skans” (obviously a favorite for us).
They get old school next with Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” (from the somewhat questionable 80s Bowie ouvre) and Talking Heads “And She Was” (wouldn’t have been our song pick but you can’t question the band). And they toss in some Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc” - solid pick.
Then things get weird. Neil Young’s “This Note’s For You”. Why that song?
Tool’s “Sober” - really? From Rilo Kiley? Didn’t exactly see that coming.
And their #1 pick? Jane’s Addiction “Stop” - we’ll chalk that up to being a Cali thing.
Go watch it and see them explain themselves.
In the meantime we’ll be here watching their acoustic Woodies performance of “The Moneymaker”.
