A couple of weeks ago the fine folks in Nada Surf and Barsuk Records invited us to come to the taping of their new video for “Whose Authority”. We caught up with them in NYC’s Lower East Side for a few location shots and now we get to share a sneak peek at the video with you before it comes out in January (with their new album to follow in Feb).

The video follows a day in the life of an NYC bike messenger, who is played by Michael Maronna - you might remember him as big Pete from The Adventures of Pete & Pete. The Nada guys spend the whole day crossing paths with him in various locations.

More after the jump.

When we arrived on location, probably halfway through the day, Ira Elliot was in the middle of a costume change. This is his “cowboy/hipster getting out of a cab” outfit.

We stood behind Matthew and the crew to get a look at the footage we’d missed earlier that day. FYI a rig like this on Clinton Street? Attracted almost zero attention. New Yorkers are adamant about their obliviousness.

Bassist Daniel Lorca wasn’t available for the taping (we heard he was in Paris) so they inserted him into the video in fascinating little ways. At one point the whole crew have an interaction in front of these faked posters.
