MTV News sat down with the Texas duo and got a couple of highly diffcult...er interesting sound bites. Plus some fascinating hair styling. We've officially been challenged by the Mars Volta.

The song slays us. So we wondered, "what inspired the Batdance-ish video?" We find the answer to that question and several we didn't ask in this behind the scenes on the video shoot footage that Hot Chip shot over to us. Now you too can be enlightened.

Let's start today with some serious sad bastard music. Imagine it's 1964 and you're hanging out in Greenwich Village. You look vaguely like Audrey Hepburn and you wear black turtlenecks. When some guy breaks your heart you don't break his face - you head to your local coffee shop and sing a song about it.

We could have just described New York anti-folk artist Jaymay, except she's more Lower East Side circa now.

Watch her perform the seriously sad "You Are The Only One I Love" from MTV UK's Spankin' New Sessions.

The rocking girls (um, who may or may not still be in high school) were the winners of our vLES Kickstart competition. Thanks to you all for voting and check out Modrocket on Subterranean this Sunday night.

We got word that Senor Moby was taping a new video for his next/first single "I Love To Move In Here" last Friday at NYC's Slipper Room so we sent a spy down to gather some info.

What we got back was this photo of Moby with Grandmaster Caz's (who, our source informs us, was the writer of "Rappers Delight" and Wiki informs us was the founder of Sugar Hill Records) homies. We strongly suspect that hilarity ensued.

Moby + Caz Crew

A brief synopsis of the video that Mute Records sent us reveals, "Grandmaster Caz fronts a band of drag queens that includes Lady Bunny while Moby checks the scene from a booth in the back. And yes, the video also features puppetry in the form of a squid creature that crashes the show."

The video is directed by Toben Seymour, who you know from his Willowz video for "Cons & Tricks" since we played the crap out of it. We're told he also directed the new Louis XIV for "Guilt By Association".

I Feel It All - 1

If you're as mesmerized by the new Feist video for "I Feel It All" as we are then we do hope you'll enjoy these behind the scenes photos from the set and a quick email Q&A with director Patrick Daughters.

Subterranean [SubT]: Where was the video shot?

Patrick Daughters [P.D.]: In Southeast Indiana, about an hour away from Cincinnati.

SubT: Did Leslie [Feist] choreograph her own dance moves?

P.D.: yes

SubT: Approximately how much money in fireworks did you have to spend?

P.D.: I don't know.  We got a generous deal from the amazing Famous Rozzi Fireworks family.

SubT: What sort of lighting set up did you concoct to get both her and the fireworks? It looks like a lot of lighting cues as she runs from the foreground to the background and then holds a sparkler up.

P.D.: The entire program was designed for the most part to synchronize with the music.  We worked extensively with John and Joe Rozzi for a couple days planning it with software they regularly use to design fireworks programs.

SubT: Was the idea of fireworks one you'd wanted to do or was it specifically inspired by this song?

P.D.: Leslie thought of it, knowing that it would fit the song and that a good friend, Mary Rozzi, had a family connection to a group of generous fireworks experts.

I Feel It All - 2

Our favorite French pervs are at it again - we'll be on the set of their latest video this Sunday snapping some shots for you, blog readers, and giving you the low down on what three French guys will get up to in New York City. However, there's a little notice up on their label's blog today that they're looking to cast a few kids who are willing to roller skate, eat ice cream and make out with strangers.

If you're around, we'll be around. We're not making out with you though.

And, on an almost entirely unrelated note, here's a video of The Undertones recording one of the best teenage songs ever that we think it would be genius for The Teenagers to cover.

Wow, we did it again. Didn't post a darn thing about anti-folk yesterday. We're blog teases.

So today we're going blather on about Emmy the Great even though emestlydestroy, who "a-duh"ed us about Lightspeed Champion, probably could already tell you that she toured in Devonte's Lightspeed band, sang back up on a few tracks from his album and recorded as song with him called "Christmas In Prison". She's also performed with Jeremy Warmsley, who's less anti-folk 3.0 and more tours with Regina Spektor and the Shins in the UK.

We're huge fans of Catherine the Great and so we got sucked in when our friends at MTV UK told us about Emmy the Great. You've gotta have gall to give yourself that moniker, but it turns out she's more or less just like that, except from Hong Kong instead of Prussia.

Watch a performance from her MTV UK Spankin' New Session.

Emmy The Great

Mondays are annoying. People want you to do stuff and act like a functioning member of society. We hate when that happens.

To make this Monday a little less irritating we put together a playlist for the mtvU users that we think you'll like too - we called it Ambient Stuff and you're supposed to just toss the playlist on and keep doing your normal computer crap while it rolls. It's all fairly non-invasive music to sooth your irritated Monday mind.

Courtesy of our pals at mtvU today we bring you the premiere of Chris Walla's "Sing Again". There are so many cameos in this video that we've watched it five times and still haven't found all the people we know darn well are in it cos we got a cheat sheet.

You watch this Seattle Portland Seattle and Portland (yeesh!) video and comment back - tell us who you spot. Whoever spots and can correctly name the most people by 2/1/08 gets to program a video of their choice to run in our 2/10/08 episode of Subterranean. Go!
