Are you already aware that every good indie rock video being made today comes straight out of Portland? We did a quick tally in our head and Portland has taken over Seattle and NYC but is still trailing behind London, where they spend lots of money on all kinds of insane stuff.
At any rate, we’re so proud to bring you the newest Panther video for “Violence, Diamonds”. It’s directed by Eric Mast, whose work you already know from Panther’s “How Well Can You Swim” video, plus M. Ward’s “Chinese Translations”, Chin Up Chin Up’s “This Harness Can’t Ride Anything” and Au Revoir Simone’s “Dark Halls”. If you thought it was just the Internet that is full of misinformation then you’re wrong. Our fancy, corporate style paperwork for this video came with the wrong director info. Fun times!
The real video director here is the Wyld File collective, who are responsible for such visuals a The Gossip’s “Standing In the Way of Control”, Beck’s “Gameboy Homeboy” and Islands’ “Don’t Call Me Whitney, Bobby” - which you can certainly see in their use of graphic treatment over the film in this video.
The video isn’t quite as abstractly weird as Panther’s two previous outings, although we are wondering about the black eye Charlie’s sporting in the vid. We’re digging the new two man set-up of the band and with it the move towards a slightly rock-er sound.
