Yesterday our friend at the Beggars Group, who also skipepd SXSW this year, live blogged a day in their office while everyone else was at SXSW. We thought it was so funny that we’re stealing the idea and doing the same thing ourselves.

We’re pretty lazy tho so we’re starting vaguely late.

10:20 - Arrive at work and remember our office-mate said he wouldn’t be in today. Yay, we can blast all the experimental noise music he hates!

10:30 - Start watching and logging interview tape of The Last Shadow Puppets interview that Domino sent us for segments on a future episode of Subterranean.

10:45 - Watch all the other DVDs of music videos that have been sitting in front of our player: new Caribou, old Athlete, Evangelicas from who knows when, some band we’ve never heard of but are sure they’re terrible.

The incredibly mesmerizing live blog continues after the jump.

10:50 - Read on EW about Brangelina being at SXSW and not attending R.E.M. show. IM friend to gloat about how right we were about SXSW being over.

11:00 - Start IM conversation with friend about Second Life. Decide to seek help for our Second Life addiction.

11:20 - Read all the instances where “MTV” is mentioned in the Beggars blog and realize that’s us. We IM too much at work

11:27 - Our weekly blog meeting is cancelled. Guess the boss is feeling lazy today too? Since this was my only meeting today I’m going to have to make up some stuff to do. Or read Jezebel obsessively.

11:30 - Send passive aggressive emails to people I know are in Austin letting them know I owe them a call (Barsuk), I’m pissed they left my camera here (co-worker) and that all their assets for a project I wasn’t involved in but have to handle since they’re not here came in (co-workers).

11:37 - Get invited to see the Wombats on Monday & accept. Am assuming no one else will be there as they’ll need to sleep off all the Shiner Bock. Woot!

11:44 - Get email from ATO about MTV News review of My Morning Jacket show at SXSW. Wonder when my promised watermark is coming. BTW - Subterranean were invited to hear the new My Morning Jacket on Tuesday and it was amazing. We’re not historially huge fans but this album is pretty impressive.

My Morning Jacket - SXSW 2008

12:20 - Spent 30 mins in the boss’s office BSing about Adam Curry’s podcast site, his bowling tournament and what we’d do with Subterranean if we had more money. Fingers corssed!

1:00 - We’ve started on our presentation deck to launch the new Death Cab album across MTV’s multiple platforms and emailed to a co-worker to review when she gets back next week. Secretly we’re very powerful. While working in PPT we listened to a big chunk of the new Kooks album. It’s very Lauryl Canyon-ie. You can hear the first single on their MySpace.

1:02:24 - While writing that last update we got into an IM fight with someone about last night’s episode of Lost. He felt it sucked, we disagree. Hello, two major reveals? This same friend hypothisized after the second episode this season that Michael would be Ben’s man on the boat so we don’t know wtf he’s bitching about. More to come as this develops.

1:07 - Our Technorati informs us that Beggars linked to our live blogging. We advised them we’d been “inspired” by them yesterday. Apparently the Beggars UK office were also. Um, how’d they know about our secret love of Pretty Ricky? Damn LiveJournals.

1:41 - Eating lunch is so exciting. Ever wonder what MTV’s in-house cafeteria is like? We call it The Lodge. It’s super cheap and super not healthy but recently redesigned so it’s all purple and metalic shiny. There is a salad bar:

Lodge - Salad Bar

And today is disgusting assorted fried fish day at the random food counter!

Since the thousands of MTV Networks employees can’t all go to SXSW our caf is pretty full today.

The Lodge - Lodge

This is what I ended up getting for lunch. It cost $3.41 and I payed with a debit card cos who carries that kind of cash around with them?

While writing this blog I got an email John Norris interviewed Tiny Animals at SXSW, a reminder not to miss the M for Montreal showcase at Maggie Mae’s at SXSW tonight, an email update on how great Sean Kingston is doing on MySpace and was advised to let you know regarding Lost: my dear friend is mostly upset at having his eyes constantly drawn to Juliette’s “cans” (bonus points) because “she is manly looking at best.” Ladies, he’s not single so forget it.

2:18 - At this point I’m bored out of my mind. I could start on a power point presentation for indie labels about all the things they can do at MTV. I could write a blog about a Bjork video premiere party I wasn’t invited to but I saw the video already three weeks ago anyway.

Instead I’m going to let you know that I just got a press release from MTV’s press department letting me know that we’ve greenlit “Paris Hilton Is My New BFF” (working title), that it will start shooting in May and air in Q4 2008 (that means Oct/Nov/Dec who knows when yet). Oh yay! I wonder if I can get The Teenagers a guest spot on this show?

“It’s undeniable that the world is always talking about Paris Hilton, and the same could be said about MTV,” said Brian Graden, President of Entertainment MTV Networks Music Channels.  “Paris is one of the most searched icons on the Web and has been the focus of everyone’s attention from TMZ to Forbes.  Now MTV will reveal the life of Paris, turn her fans into friends, and see what it takes to get close to one of the world’s most well-known personalities.”

Teenagers + Paris

2:51 - An intern just brought me a note from HR with information on how to join that free credit service they’re offering because, yes, I was one of the 5K MTV employees whose personal information was accessed in the great database hack. Yay @ potential identity theft!

In other SXSW news, MTV News have posted some new 5@5 interviews from Vampire Weekend, Tapes ‘N Tapes and Bun B, which we’re bringing you now. PS - Bun B is in the new Dizzee Rascal video and MTV2 will premiere it next week.

3:35 - OMG srsly can we just go home now? All we’ve done since the last post is read Jezebel, listen to the Headlights album, answer emails with “that’s going to have to wait until so-and-so gets back from Austin next week” and field IMs from friends who want to know how they can get in the blog.

Hey, did we mention we like the new Headlights video for “Cherry Tulips”?

4:21 - In reaction to the Beggars UK office saying they feel live blogging is passe if MTV are doing it, MTV are proud to announce that effective immediately we’re dropping Vampire Weekend out of rotation. Yeah, you just thought you were being all cute.

I haven’t gotten an email that required a response since 2:42. I’ve been reading Lost theories. Am now listening to a CD of multiple artists from Norway that a PR company called This Is gave me in Norway. So far nothing is striking, although this band The Royalties sounds kind of like CYHSY (first album) if they listened to a lot more Dandy Warhols.

4:48 - We’re working on having Portishead on an upcoming ep of Subterranean. Emails are exchanged, assurances given. We’re hoping it will be like that ep we did with Robert Smith and Portishead will pick all the videos that we air. More info to come on this in coming weeks but hey - we did something productive today.

5:00:50 - A friend at Motorola just IMed me a link to the Archie comics rendition of Pulp’s “Common People”. It’s amazing, you want to see it. They threaten to do it again with “This Is Hardcore”.

Listening to the Why? album. I didn’t really like the Butthole Surfers so I’m not sure how long this will stay on.

Archie Pulp

5:45 - Yawn. Time to go home.
