First of all let us remind you that we are still accepting your video requests for stuff to show in our Viewer Request episode on 4/27. Go post it on our MySpace page.
Since we started soliciting these requests we’ve gotten some very odd friend reqeusts from bands. Actually we were super excited when Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong immediately requested our friendship after we posted about them! Here are a few others and our impressions.
The Black Math Experiment: Houston, TX

This group sent us a request along with a note that they are the “weirdest band in Houston”. Not true, we say - the Fatal Flying Guilloteens are the weirdest band in Houston. We should know, your Subterranean music programmer grew up there. The songs are borderline terrible and name check David Arquette, Winona Ryder and there’s one called “Everyone Is Gay” that’s just like if Nerf Herder and The Rentals had a really annoying baby.
Verdict: Not our friend.
More after the jump.
Peephole: Brooklyn, NY

Ooooh yes. Yes yes yes. We’re just going to list their “influences” and you should get why they’re a huge yeeeees. “Orange Juice, Robert Mugabe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, Lynne Read Banks, The Teardrop Explodes, Magazine, Chris Rock, Sante D’orazio, Joe Namath, and of course, Bowie, Prince, Lennon, and Gainsbourg.”
Verdict: So friended and we may want to take this to the next level.
Kosmos.com - St. Petersburg, Russia

WTF? There’s indie rock in Russia? And this band clains to be one of the most anticipated indie releases there? But they sound kind of like 30 Seconds to Mars? Someone ship Russia some Pixies and Pavement records ASAP, mmkay?
Verdict: Our Magic 8 Ball says “outlook not so good.”
The Frontier Brothers: Austin & Fort Worth, TX

They like country music and they like yacht rock. So they mushed them together and sprinkled some Ben Folds style piano rock on top. See that’s what we got out of it but they think their influenes are ELO, Bowie and Wilco, apparently. At any rate, we are not opposed to it. It makes our toes tap.
Verdict: Friends indeed.
