We can already tell we’re going to have a slow and dreary Friday so how about another round of A&Ring the poor people who venture to send us MySpace friend requests? Let’s all gather ’round the fake fire and give a listen.
Jeff: Los Angeles, CA

Sounds like: They are clearly way down with My Morning Jacket, “Car Wash Hair” era Mercury Rev and being different from the other kids in the LA singer-songwriter circle so they’re going more the smoke pot in the desert route.
Verdict: While it’s clear they’re still kids messing around and they really need a producer to give them some guidance, we see potential here. Friended.
As always, more after the jump.
Derek White & the Monophobics: Pittsburgh, PA

Sounds like: Yeah, you guys all know we’re wicked into power pop by now right? At times they’re full on Beach Boys-a-likes while other songs are borderline Brian Jonestown Massacre (when Anton is like, cognizent). It’s almost hard to believe this music would come out of Pittsburgh.
Verdict: We couldn’t possibly say no to power pop.
Moon High: Dayton/Columbus, OH

Sounds like: We can’t help thinking the Pernice Brothers with a little more nodding to the Spector “Wall of Sound” aesthetic. We really love it.
Verdict: Friended and we’re emailing people today about how they should sign this band.
Armageddon Monks: Ithaca, NY

Sounds like: dude rock - but they sent us a message with their friend request that said, “Are we cool enough to be friends with Subterranean? Oh, probably not. But hey, fuck it, that’s your call.”
Verdict: The message was funny. We think you’re very special but you’re just not our type.
