Last night we DVRed and watch the MTV Movie Awards, like the dutiful little corporate citizens we are (dutiful since we had not a single thing to do with it…but really there wasn’t much else on but The Simpsons and Family Guy re-runs anyway). On the gold carpet at one point were the cast of “Twilight”, being asked all kinds of questions by Kim Stolz about the Twilight phenomenon and she was raving about it being some sort of mega page view getter on the MTV News site.
To all of this we said to ourselves, “What the fark is Twilight?”
One quick perusal of Amazon later and we figured out it’s a YA book series that’s part Lestat, part Buffy, part Romeo & Juliet. And it’s written by a Mormon. Check out the exclusive movie trailer that was so dark it was practically unwatchable on TV.
After our research today we started thinking to ourselves, “hey they should hire us to do music supervision on this movie.” Unlike “Harry Potter” it looks to us like this movie would lend itself handily to putting music cues in and we wouldn’t totally eff it up (we’re looking in your direction “The Craft”).
So we threw together a little video playlist for of the timeless songs we’d probably want to put in “Twilight”, based solely on the movie trailer. We leaned towards dark, romantic and at times frantic tracks. Yeah, we’ll probably go out and read this crap now. Blarg.
1. Muse “Hysteria” - in it’s own weird way the vibe of this song really sums up the hysterical feelings behind teenage romance. Bonus points: the Twilight books author is apparently a big Muse fan.
More after the jump.
2. Evangelicals “Midnight Vignette” - The lyrics express some star-crossed lovin’ by a dark haired couple. Perfect. Bonus points: They made a horror movie inspired music video.
3. Ryan Adams“So Alive” - For that liberating love scene when they first fly…through the night on bat wings or whatever it is vampires do. Bonus points: it’s ironic because vampires aren’t alive. Haha.
4. New Order“Crystal” - For the ever important chase scene when some villain tries to get between our two lovers. Bonus points: the fake band in the video are The Killers (subtract some bonus for the actual Killers having taken their band name from this).
5. The Cure “A Night Like This” - It was not easy to pick one song by The Cure. Since we’re making this all up as we go though, we’re going with “A Night Like This” for the final song in the movie. Or possibly in some sort of break-up montage. Bonus points: representing the band who most embraced the goth moniker.
