All of your guesses were wrong, but we got some really interesting feedback and ideas of new places to go spelunk in MTV’s archives for 120 Minutes performances to try and bring you in the future!
Today we are so pleased to post proto-emo Seattle band Sunny Day Real Estate’s performance of “In Circles”, taped for 120 Minutes in 1994. If you check the SDRE live performance archive on MTV.com you can also watch “Seven” and “Rodeo Jones”. Next week we’re also hoping to bring you a nugget of the interview that took place after this performance in which bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith explain how bizarre and awkward taping live performances, particularly for MTV, can be.
For those of you who might be too young to remember SDRE, check out this MTV News piece “Emo Stars Worship Them, So Should Sunny Day Real Estate Reunite?”. It’ll give you a good run down of bands singer Jeremy Enigk started after SDRE, bands other band members joined and generally what they’ve all been doing with their lives.
