SubT favorites, Passion Pit, took some time from their ultra-busy dance schedule to discuss Table Manners, Burritos, Bubblegum and Lucky Charms.  Wonder if these dudes recommend dancing on a full stomach?

The unofficial official sound of summer at SubT Towers has suddenly turned into a two-horse race; while Phoenix’s absolutely unimpeachable “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” has the early lead, NYC/Sweden trio Miike Snow are challenging hard from the outside. They haven’t made a video yet but they recently droped into KCRW for a 2-song studio session where they ran through “Black and Blue” and “Song For No One”. The latter –in all it’s sun-drenched glory– is above and is the best Peter Bjorn & John song that they never did.

Are you guys messing with The Big Pink yet? If not I suggest you get stuck into their Myspace page and get a taste of what hyperbole kings NME call (in the nicest way possible) “a druggy, malodorous drone“. If you were to find a blender large enough to safely put My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Lansing-Dreiden in without killing them this band might well be the result. But don’t count on drinking this through a straw; a mix this rich & soupy needs a spoon for sure.

We’re well aware that Monday morning may not be the optimal time for Saturday night music; it’s hard enough to get the week going without a bassed-out reminder of happier times aka “the weekend” slapping you in the face first thing. Sorry, but we do what we must in the name of attractive videos.

“Audacity of Huge” is the latest offering from Simian Mobile Disco and it comes packaged in a clip that can only be described as see-and-say abstract art. Literal and figurative at the same time, it’s like a pop-art video flashcard constructed by the world’s most aesthetically astute pre-K teacher. Great song, even better video.

French it-band of the moment –which is a title they seem to regain every time they release an album– Phoenix stopped by the MTV mothership yesterday to kick out an uber-special, quasi-acoustic rendition of “1901″ on It’s On With Alexa Chung. They also did Letterman as well where they plugged in and rocked out but they did it sans boombox so by our assessment the MTV performance gets an extra 2 points for style.

From time to time we like to get all playlisty and throw more than our typical tasty morsel at you. This is nice, multi-course meal that should leave you feeling like you just had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner in one sitting so you might think about loosing the denim and reaching for the sweat pants.

Director Patrick Daughters is like a new-school Spike Jonze; an artsy, accessible and successful filmaker with a portfolio so achingly hip that it makes Sundance look like a student film night. In the past 5 years he’s knocked out stunning clips by Kings of Leon, Bright Eyes, Department of Eagles, Depeche Mode and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s to name just a few of the privileged parties who have gotten the hookup.

Remember that video for St.Vincent’s “Actor Out of Work”? The real intense one with the crying and the drama and the yadda yadda yadda? If you’re like us you know it’s a great song but the visual might be a bit much for your sensitive self. So take it in again but this time in an acoustic fashion without all the shvitzing.

In which the maudlin Albuquerque band somehow manage to make a video with cowboy children, dogs on roofs and a Gene Simmons impersonator with a removable tongue come off kinda sad instead of fun.
