We made a co-worker watch this video yesterday and they replied, “watching this makes me want to move to Europe”. We replied it makes us wish fall were here already.
That’s right ladies & gents, the Liam Finn obsession continues! You’ll undoubtedly be seeing this video on Subterranean soon since we’re superfans.

Ok, so the thing about this piece that drives us nuts is strictly semantics. We fall into the group of people who insist that punk rock only existed between 1974-1979 and everything after is post-punk, noise rock, what have you. MTV News feel free to call the bands of today lo-fi punk. We’re going to split the diff and refer to them as noise rock.
Regardless of where you fall in the punk semantics debate, do check out the MTV News piece on these bands - video embedded below but there’s an excellent written story as well. No Age come off as the brainiest, Times New Viking are the “Fast Times At Ridgemont High”-est and the other bands look kinda sweaty. We’re still not down with Jay Retard. Wanna change our minds?

Point yourself to MTV.com and have a listen to the full forthcoming Death Cab album before it hits stores next Tuesday. The guys will also host You Rock the Deuce on MTV2 this Saturday.
You can also hear the band explain the new album, track by track, on MTV’s Buzzworthy blog.

We’ve been thinking about calling this video out since we first saw it. Today’s the day.
“Don’t You Evah” is easily our favorite song on Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. It was love at first listen. When we heard there was finally going to be a video for it there was much rejoycing in our minds.
Then we saw the video.
The girl from “The Paper” has better looking pieces on her YouTube channel than this video. It could be a sweaty tour film type thing (the sort of video Wilco managed to perfect circa Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) but the weird effects on it just make the whole experience feel detached and low quality.
Granted, Spoon have never excelled in the music video division of the indie rock Olympics but we were hoping for more than this. Like any fan, we hate when our favorite song gets the shaft and a phone-it-in treatment.

Ok, what we haven’t seen written about in the blogosphere yet is how Bennett Miller directed this Scarlett Johanasson video. He happens to also be the man who directed the Bob Dylan video Scarlett starred in for “When the Deal Goes Down”. Miller also directed the 2005 Oscar winning “Capote”.
That’s easily the most remarkable thing about this video, unless you’re into watching Scarlett Johansson get her make-up applied. Maybe there’s some sort of artist lesson about minimalism in this that we’re too bored to follow.
